The Westfalenhallen combine two worlds on one site: an exhibition ground with eight halls, and the Westfalenhalle itself as one of Germany's best-known event arenas. For a photographer that means very different demands — a trade fair needs clean product rendering, a congress needs stage lighting and fast reactions, a concert needs both at once.
Well-known formats at the venue include Jagd & Hund as Europe's largest hunting fair, Creativa for crafts and creative making, Intermodellbau, Hund & Katze, and a wide range of trade and regional exhibitions — plus congresses in the convention centre and corporate events of every size.
For formats with a stage programme we work with two to four cameras and take audio directly from the sound desk rather than relying on camera mics. That is the only route to a recording you can actually publish afterwards.
For award ceremonies and congresses we deliver, in addition to the full recording, a separate cut per speaker — so each presenter can share their own contribution, which in our experience produces by far the most organic reach.
From our Essen office Dortmund is roughly 40 minutes away, and travel is included in all NRW packages. For early slots before the doors open we build in extra buffer.

The Westfalenhallen sit just south of Dortmund city centre, next to the Westfalenpark and the Signal Iduna Park, the stadium of Borussia Dortmund. The U45 and U46 light rail lines stop at Westfalenhallen, a short ride from Dortmund Hauptbahnhof. One local detail is worth checking before you plan: when Borussia Dortmund plays at home, the roads and trains around the grounds fill up. If a home match falls on your show day, allow more time for arrival and departure.
Dortmund Airport is close to the city and mostly serves European routes. For long-haul connections most international exhibitors fly into Düsseldorf and take the train to Dortmund Hauptbahnhof.
We covered InterTabac 2026 for Rush, from 15 to 17 September 2026 at the Westfalenhallen. On day one we were on the stand before the halls opened to trade visitors, shooting the stand architecture, product wall and counter while the space was still empty. During show hours the focus moved to the stand team, sales conversations and visitors. Rush received a vertical reel on the evening of each show day, and after the show a recap and a client voice recorded on the stand with a radio mic and our own light. The Dortmund calendar is broad, and the shot list changes with it. DKM (27 to 28 October 2026) is a meeting place for the insurance and financial services industry: talks, stage sessions and conversations, very few products. BUILDINX (17 to 19 November 2026) is about logistics real estate and HEATEXPO (24 to 26 November 2026) about heat supply, both trade audiences where technical exhibits and panels share the stand.
boe international (20 to 21 January 2027) is the fair of the event industry itself. Exhibitors there are agencies, technicians and venue providers, and their stands are built to be looked at, so lighting and architecture shots carry more weight than usual. JAGD & HUND (2 to 7 February 2027), MOTORRÄDER DORTMUND (4 to 7 March 2027), CREATIVA (17 to 21 March 2027) and INTERMODELLBAU (22 to 25 April 2027) are public fairs with busy aisles, where an early slot before the doors open is the only way to get a clean overview. Hund & Pferd (6 to 8 November 2026) follows the same pattern, as does the regional building fair in April 2027.
At the end of 2027, SOLIDS and RECYCLING-TECHNIK run side by side on 1 and 2 December. Machines for bulk solids and recycling are large and often static, so short video sequences of moving parts usually explain them better than stills.
