Messe Dortmund belongs to the Westfalenhallen group and sits on Rheinlanddamm, south of the city centre. The same grounds hold the Westfalenhalle, one of the country’s large concert and event arenas, and Kongress Dortmund. According to the venue there are nine air-conditioned exhibition halls with floor areas between 1,800 and 10,000 m², around 60,000 m² gross in total, plus around 61,000 m² of outdoor space right next to the halls.
The layout is compact, about 300 by 750 metres. The venue states that no hall is more than 200 metres from the main entrance and that the links between halls are covered throughout. The main entrance is the modern North entrance. For a shoot that is an advantage: a second appointment in another hall or a talk in the directly connected congress area is reached quickly, without carrying equipment through the rain.
The halls differ in size and brightness. Some stands sit under high ceilings with plenty of artificial light, others in smaller halls with darker corners. We bring our own light, check your stand before the first frame and balance mixed light in the edit. According to the venue, the hall allocation of each show is listed on that show’s website; we set the meeting point and routes from there.
From Dortmund Hauptbahnhof, the U45 towards Westfalenhallen takes 10 minutes to the Westfalenhallen stop, according to the venue. The U46 links the Reinoldikirche and Stadtgarten stops with the grounds, and the U42 towards Hombruch stops at Theodor-Fliedner-Heim, a short walk away. By car the B1 (A40) leads to the grounds; the satnav address is Rheinlanddamm 200. Around 3,300 exhibition parking spaces marked A are right by the halls, with more areas marked C to F nearby. Dortmund Airport is about 12 minutes away by taxi, as the venue states, which helps teams flying in on low-cost routes.
We drive in from Essen and are on your stand before the doors open; travel is included in every package. During the show everyone on the grounds needs a pass or ticket, so please plan two or three exhibitor passes for our crew. There are checks at the entrance and the venue asks visitors to avoid large bags; our kit is compact and fits on one trolley.
For Messe Dortmund’s own shows, the general terms of participation cover photo and film: commercial image recording of any kind is only allowed for people admitted by the organiser and carrying a valid pass issued by it. Stand shots outside daily opening hours that need special lighting require prior consent, and the exhibitor bears the cost. At guest events the rules of the respective organiser apply. We check with you in advance where the pass for our crew is requested and provide names and days.
Clean stand shots happen before the doors open, while the aisles are empty: overviews from several angles, product details, graphics and the team photo. After that we follow conversations, demos and visitors on your stand (booth) without interrupting your meetings.
We know Dortmund particularly well from InterTabac. We have worked there for YOOZ and for Tyson, among others, and covered InterTabac again in September 2026. Stands in this industry are often dark, with glowing displays and vapour effects. We shoot them with fast lenses and our own light without killing the mood, and make sure products and brand names stay sharp and readable.
The other Dortmund shows need different pictures. JAGD & HUND is about equipment, clothing and animals, which means textured product shots and calm images without flash. DKM is a trade fair for the finance and insurance sector with many meetings and talks, so portraits and stage shots count. At CREATIVA and INTERMODELLBAU hands, materials and details are central, at boe international event technology and staging.
Because Kongress Dortmund is connected directly to the halls, stand and stage combine easily in one day. If someone from your company gives a talk, joins a panel or receives an award, we record it with camera and separate sound and photograph the speaker on the stand afterwards. From the talk we cut short subtitled clips for LinkedIn.
Interviews are recorded in a quiet corner of your stand with a lavalier microphone and our own light. Our editors cut the 30-second highlight video and the vertical clips in parallel, so you can post while the show is still running.
According to the venue, around 60 trade fairs take place in Dortmund each year. In autumn 2026 DKM follows at the end of October, Hund & Pferd in November, then BUILDINX and HEATEXPO. boe international comes in January 2027, JAGD & HUND in February, MOTORRÄDER DORTMUND and CREATIVA in March, INTERMODELLBAU in April. InterTabac follows in September 2027, SOLIDS and RECYCLING-TECHNIK in December 2027.
The mix of trade and consumer shows shapes the plan. At consumer shows like JAGD & HUND or CREATIVA the aisles fill fast, so an early block before admission pays off. At trade shows like InterTabac, DKM or SOLIDS the mornings are most valuable, when buyers and decision-makers are on the stand. We split multi-day coverage into a full first day and shorter follow-up blocks, for a talk or an important customer meeting.
InterTabac draws many exhibitors from abroad, including Asia and the Middle East. We work in English, Arabic or Farsi, run interviews in the speaker’s language and add subtitles on request. Companies outside the EU are invoiced without German VAT; EU companies with a VAT ID receive a reverse-charge invoice. Because Dortmund is in North Rhine-Westphalia, there are no travel costs.
