Industrial fairs in Hannover share a recurring problem: the exhibits are large and the aisles comparatively narrow. A five-metre production line can hardly be captured completely and attractively from the aisle.
So we work with wide-angle lenses and corrected perspective, keeping lines straight so the machine does not appear to topple. Alongside that we shoot details — controls, material transitions, tooling in engagement. Those detail images are, in our experience, used more often than the wide shot.
Hall lighting in Hannover is usually high, cool and uneven, and glossy metal surfaces reflect everything above them. Left alone, that produces harsh highlights and colour casts.
We add light deliberately and choose angles where reflections support the form of the machine rather than destroying it. With running equipment we also make sure movement is visible without the image looking simply blurred.
The Hannover fairs are international and technical. Many conversations run in English and the days are long. We work in both languages and coordinate at the stand briefly and unobtrusively.
