For a show in Dortmund, choose a trade fair photographer who works with a valid pass from the organiser, knows how to light dark stands and stage areas, and delivers photos and video within 24 hours. Add a written fixed price, unlimited usage rights and a crew that can run interviews in English.
One Dortmund detail matters before anything else: whether Messe Dortmund runs your show itself or rents the halls to a guest organiser decides which rules apply. Ask who organises your show first.
Use this to make quotes comparable. Ask for written answers in the quote.
| Criterion | Why it matters | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Pass for the crew | At shows Messe Dortmund organises itself, only people admitted by the organiser with a valid pass may record commercially. | "Where do we apply for your crew's pass?" |
| Own show or guest event | At guest events, the guest organiser's rules apply. | "Do you know our organiser's rules?" |
| Dark stands and screens | Many stands use dimmed light, screens and effects. | "How do you shoot a dark stand without killing its mood?" |
| Shoots after closing | Out-of-hours stand shoots needing special lighting require prior consent, and the exhibitor pays the costs. | "Does our shot list need a slot after closing?" |
| Stage and congress | Kongress Dortmund connects directly to the halls. | "Can you cover a talk and the stand on the same day?" |
| Delivery time | Day-one images should be online while buyers are still at the show. | "When is the first selection ready?" |
| Fixed price | Editing, video and clips billed separately often add up to a different total than expected. | "What exactly does the price include?" |
| Usage rights | Distributors want to show your show photos on their own channels. | "May our partners use the images too?" |
| Language | Many InterTabac exhibitors come from Asia and the Middle East. | "Can you run interviews in English or Arabic?" |
Westfalenhallen combines an exhibition centre with eight halls, the Westfalenhalle arena and Kongress Dortmund, which connects directly to the halls, so a stand and a stage fit easily into one day. On the calendar are DKM (27–28 October 2026), HEATEXPO (24–26 November 2026), JAGD & HUND (2–7 February 2027) and InterTabac (14–16 September 2027). Trade shows like DKM or InterTabac live from morning conversations with buyers; public shows like JAGD & HUND need an early block before the doors open.
Messe Dortmund's general terms for its own shows (April 2025) allow commercial image recording only by people the organiser has admitted with a valid pass. Stand shoots outside opening hours that need special lighting require prior consent, and the exhibitor pays the costs. At guest events, the guest organiser's rules apply; the details are in the exhibitor manual.
From our office in Essen we reach Dortmund in about 40 minutes and build in extra time for slots before opening. More on the venue is on our Westfalenhallen Dortmund venue page.
Quotes for Dortmund usually come in two forms. Hourly rates look simple at first, but editing, video, vertical clips and extended rights are often billed separately. Package prices fix time on the stand, image count, video and delivery time in advance, so the invoice after the show holds no surprises. For multi-day shows like JAGD & HUND, a plan per day works better than one flat fee for the week.
Pixer's packages cost €990 for two hours, €1,490 for four hours and €1,990 for a full show day, each plus VAT, with travel to Dortmund included. A full first day for stand, team and film plus a shorter block for a talk or a key customer meeting has worked well. Companies outside the EU are invoiced without German VAT. Pixer GmbH is a photo and video studio from Essen, Germany, specialising in trade fair photography and video for exhibitors across Germany. Our most recent Dortmund job was InterTabac 2026; the InterTabac 2026 case study shows what we produced there. On dark stands we use fast lenses and our own lights, record talks with separate sound and deliver photos, a highlight video and vertical clips within 24 hours of the show day ending.
Packages and dates are on our Dortmund page, and you can book your stand (booth) coverage online. The difference between an organiser-run show and a guest event is explained in the trade fair glossary.
