Belgium is drive-in territory for us. Antwerp is about two hours from Essen, Brussels two and a half, Ghent and Kortrijk around three, and the high-speed line from Cologne reaches Brussels-Midi in under two hours with the equipment as luggage. There is no flight to pay for and, for a single day, usually no hotel. On two- or three-day bookings we stay near the venue and the travel line remains a small share of the total.
The exhibitors who book us for Belgium are rarely Belgian. They are exporters from Asia, the Gulf, Turkey or the Americas whose European calendar also includes Düsseldorf or Frankfurt and who want the same crew and look at every show. Brussels adds a second kind of event: association congresses and EU-related meetings where the stand (booth) is a meeting point for delegations, and photographs of handshakes and panels matter as much as product shots.
Belgian and other EU companies with a VAT ID receive a reverse-charge invoice without German VAT; companies outside the EU are invoiced net. The packages are unchanged from Germany: €990, €1,490 and €1,990 plus VAT. Organisers and stand teams in Belgium work with us in English.
Brussels Expo lies on the Heysel plateau in the north of the city, beside the Atomium and the Heysel metro station on line 6. The palaces date from the world exhibitions of 1935 and 1958, so hall heights and daylight vary more than in a modern German venue, and we walk the halls before opening to plan the light. Batibouw, the construction fair, runs here in late winter and the Brussels Motor Show opens the year in January.
Antwerp Expo on Jan Van Rijswijcklaan, a few minutes from the ring road and Berchem station, hosts professional and consumer shows for Flanders and is the quickest Belgian venue from Essen. Flanders Expo in Ghent, at the E40 and E17 interchange, is the largest venue in Flanders with a broad calendar of trade and public fairs.
Kortrijk Xpo in West Flanders, close to Lille, is known for construction-machinery, woodworking and design shows. Luxexpo The Box on the Kirchberg plateau in Luxembourg is covered from the same base, about three hours from Essen and often combined with a Belgian show in the same week.
