Subtitles are on-screen text that reproduces or translates what is said in a video. They make a trade fair video understandable without sound and in other languages.
Subtitles reproduce what is said in the video, either in the original language or translated. There are burned-in subtitles, which are part of the picture, and separate subtitle files, for example in SRT format, which can be switched on and off on platforms such as YouTube or LinkedIn.
In social media clips subtitles are often used as a design element, with larger type, single highlighted words and placement in the safe area of the frame. Videos without speech use short text overlays that do a similar job.
Many people watch videos in their feed without sound, in the office, on the move or somewhere they do not want to disturb anyone. An interview without subtitles loses its message there. With subtitles the message survives, and the video becomes more accessible at the same time.
For international exhibitors there is a second reason. A video filmed in English at a German trade fair often has to work in the home market, with distributors or at head office too. Multilingual subtitles turn one shoot into several versions. Decide in advance which languages you need and whether the subtitles should be burned in or delivered as a file. For technical terms and product names, make sure the correct spelling is available, ideally as a short list for the editing team.
After filming, the interviews are transcribed, checked and timed precisely in the edit. For vertical clips we make sure the text is not covered by the platform's on-screen controls.
At Pixer we deliver subtitles in English, German, Arabic and Persian, because our team speaks these languages and can conduct interviews in them. Other languages, such as Chinese or Turkish, can be added as subtitles. The subtitled versions are ready within 24 hours after the show ends, and text corrections are covered by the two revision rounds. That way the clip filmed on your stand (booth) can go out to every market at once.
Burned in for most social media, because not every platform displays files well. For YouTube and the website, an SRT file is useful as well.
Yes, as separate versions or as several subtitle files that viewers can switch between.
