On-stand interview: voices straight from your stand

An on-stand interview is a short filmed conversation on a trade fair stand, usually with management, product leads, customers or partners, for video and social media.

Definition

In an on-stand interview a person speaks to camera on the stand (booth) or answers questions asked off camera. The answers are short, often only 20 to 60 seconds per question, and are later cut into a trade fair film, a recap video or stand-alone clips.

Typical interviewees are the managing director, product managers, sales leads, satisfied customers or partners. The stand in the background shows where the conversation takes place. Unlike a studio interview, hall noise, light and visitor flow set the conditions.

What it means for exhibitors

Interviews make a trade fair video credible. A customer who says in two sentences why she works with you convinces more than any text overlay. They are also ideal for new products, because the person responsible can explain what is new in their own words.

Prepare three to five questions and go through them with the interviewees in advance, without having them learn answers by heart. Fix the language and decide whether subtitles are needed. Customers and partners must agree to publication, ideally in writing. Plan fixed time slots, because at peak hours your people are busy selling and the hall is at its loudest. Think about where on the stand to film, too: a quiet corner with the logo behind is better than the middle of the aisle.

In practice

In an on-stand interview, good sound matters more than the picture. We therefore use clip-on microphones on a wireless system that record voices cleanly even in loud halls. We prefer to film early in the morning, around lunchtime or late in the afternoon. Before each interview we do a short sound check and make sure background and light work.

At Pixer interviews are included in the Full Day package and can be added to the shorter packages for €190, together with a 90-second film. We deliver subtitles in English, German, Arabic or Persian and can conduct interviews in those languages ourselves.

FAQ

Common questions

How long should an on-stand interview be?

Twenty to 60 seconds per question is usually enough. In the finished film often only a few sentences remain.

What if the interviewee is nervous?

Questions instead of a monologue help. Someone answering a concrete question sounds more natural than someone reciting a text.
