A product video shows what photos cannot: movement, size, handling. This guide explains when a studio set, real use or the trade fair is the right setting, which lengths and formats you need and how to plan the shoot, including from abroad.
Ten photos show what a product looks like. A video shows how it behaves: how a lid opens, how a fabric falls, how a machine starts, how big a device is in the hand. These are exactly the questions buyers ask before they order or request a quote.
Before you choose between a studio and a location, answer three questions:
The answers decide the setting. Broadly there are three: the studio set, real use and the trade fair.
| Setting | Strength | Limit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio set | Full control of light, background and detail | Does not show the product in use | Galleries, details, variants |
| Real use with people | Buyers see size, handling and benefit | Needs a user, a location and consent | Product pages, ads, social media |
| Trade fair stand | Product, team and customers in one place | Hall light, noise, other brands in the background | Demos, show recaps, sales |
Many manufacturers combine two settings: clean studio shots for the gallery and a short scene that shows the product in everyday use. For machines and systems that need explaining, your own plant is often the best place for the real-use part, because that is where the product actually runs.
The studio produces the video that shows every detail cleanly, and nobody has to travel for it. You ship the product, and the set is built to suit the category, for example stone and linen for cosmetics or a workbench for tools. For manufacturers abroad this is often the simplest route to video for European marketplaces.
For online shops and marketplaces, Pixer produces product videos on the same set as our product photography: from €1,290 plus VAT on its own, or €3,490 per product in the Listing + Video package. The package includes a 30 to 60-second lifestyle video with one model at one location, 16:9 plus one vertical version and subtitles in English and German, delivered in 14 working days.
A real-use scene answers the question buyers ask most: is this right for me? It needs three things the studio lacks.
For machines, systems and software, your own site or a customer’s site is the most credible setting. There the product video can be combined with interviews, for example with the engineer who developed it or a customer who uses it. We plan these shoots with our corporate video packages: Corporate Basic with half a shoot day at one location and a 60-second film for €1,990, Corporate Professional with a full day at up to two locations for €2,990, both plus VAT.
Remember consent from everyone on camera, and workplace safety: anyone filmed at a running machine wears the required protective equipment, even if it looks less elegant on screen.
On your stand (booth) the product is set up, the team is there and customers are watching. It is the most natural setting for a demonstration, but not a quiet one.
For exhibitors, these product scenes are part of our trade fair video production, with packages from €990 plus VAT and delivery within 24 hours after the show ends, so the footage is ready before you fly home. For stills on the stand, see our guide to product photos on the stand.
Length follows use, not the amount of footage:
| Use | Length | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace gallery and ads | 15 to 30 seconds | 16:9 and 9:16, clear without sound |
| Product page | 30 to 60 seconds | 16:9 with subtitles |
| Sales and explanation | 60 to 90 seconds | 16:9 with interview or voice-over |
| Screen at a trade fair | Loop of 30 to 60 seconds | 16:9, no sound |
The process is similar in all three settings: a briefing on audience, use and the one question the video answers; a shot list; the shoot; the edit with a preview and corrections; delivery in every format you need. Plan subtitles from the start, and in more than one language if you sell in several markets, because galleries and feeds often play without sound.
Handling, size, difference or installation. A video that tries to explain everything explains nothing.
Full control of light and background. Ship the product; nobody has to travel.
A person, a fitting place and an action with a beginning and an end.
Products that need explaining work best where they actually run, ideally with an interview.
Clean shots before opening, demos at fixed times, speech on a clip-on microphone.
15 to 30 seconds for galleries and ads, up to 90 seconds for sales and explanation.
At Pixer, a product video for online shops and marketplaces starts at €1,290 plus VAT on its own, or €3,490 per product with a complete image set (Listing + Video). Shoots at your site with interviews use the corporate packages from €1,990.
Not for studio shots. You ship the product to Essen, and we handle set, styling and filming. For real-use scenes at your site in Germany we come to you; within North Rhine-Westphalia, travel is included in the corporate packages.
It depends on the question the video should answer. The studio shows details and variants better, real use shows size and benefit. Many manufacturers combine both in one video.
Yes. For the screen on the stand, a silent loop with on-screen text works best, because hardly anyone hears sound in the hall. Usage rights are unlimited and include trade fairs.
The Listing + Video package is delivered in 14 working days. Corporate shoots follow five to ten working days after the shoot, depending on the package, and trade fair videos within 24 hours after the show ends.
For galleries and ads usually not; pictures and short on-screen text are enough. For products that need explaining in sales, speech helps, either an interview with your engineer or a voice-over.
