A practice video shows patients your rooms and your team before they call. This guide covers the formats that work, consent and data protection, the advertising rules for doctors in Germany and a shoot that does not close the practice.
Patients increasingly choose a practice online. They read reviews, open the Google Business Profile and click through to the website before they pick up the phone. A short video answers questions that text struggles with: what the rooms look like, how the doctor speaks, how the reception feels.
For practices with international patients, and for doctors who moved to Germany and see patients in English and German, the film also shows in the first seconds that patients will be understood.
Before you think about cameras and shoot days, decide what the film is for. Most practices pursue one of three goals, sometimes two:
The goal decides who speaks, which rooms are shown and where the film runs. A video that tries to do all three usually ends up too long and too general.
| Format | Content | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|
| Practice portrait, about 60 seconds | The doctor introduces the practice, the team and the specialities | Homepage, Google profile, booking platforms |
| Team and recruiting film | Colleagues describe their working day, training and teamwork | Careers page, job adverts, LinkedIn |
| Treatment explainer | A factual explanation of a procedure, for example the first appointment | Treatment pages, appointment confirmation |
| Walk-through, 30 to 60 seconds | A calm camera move through reception, waiting room and treatment rooms, no interview | Website, Google profile |
| Patient testimonial | A patient describes their experience, with written consent | Only after checking the professional rules |
The portrait is usually the right place to start. A team film and a walk-through can be added on the same day, because rooms, light and team are already in place. The doctor should speak freely: a script or a teleprompter almost always looks stiff on camera. Questions sent in advance work better, and the film is cut from the answers. More on this in our guide to employees on camera.
In a medical practice, data protection is not a side issue. Under the GDPR, these points belong in every plan:
At Pixer we bring the consent forms to the shoot, and raw footage is deleted after the project on request. That keeps the film compatible with the GDPR and leaves you in control of who appears in it.
Doctors, dentists and clinics in Germany are bound by their professional codes and by the Heilmittelwerbegesetz, the German health advertising act. If you trained or practised in another country, do not assume that the rules you know from there apply. What is permitted in your speciality is a question for your medical or dental chamber or your legal adviser, ideally before the concept is final. A few principles help with planning:
Build the review into the schedule: the concept before the shoot, the rough cut before publication. Changes in the edit are easy; a missing shot after the shoot day is not.
A practice portrait usually needs half a shoot day. The date goes where the practice has room to breathe: early in the morning before the first patient, after consultation hours or on a Saturday. If the practice has to stay open, filming happens in the gaps between appointments. A typical morning:
What to organise beforehand is covered in our guide to preparing a shoot day. One example from our work is the 54-second portrait for VIVA DERM, a private practice for aesthetic medicine in Essen-Rüttenscheid, which you can watch on our medical practice video page. It was shot on one morning outside consultation hours, with no script, no voice-over and no stock footage. The treatment scenes were filmed with a patient who had given written consent beforehand.
At Pixer, practice videos use the same fixed packages as every corporate video, all plus VAT, with travel within North Rhine-Westphalia included:
Delivery follows five to ten working days after the shoot, depending on the package, in 16:9 for the website, Google profile and waiting room and in 9:16 for Reels and Stories. Subtitles make the film work without sound. Usage rights are unlimited. For practices outside North Rhine-Westphalia, travel is quoted once per trip.
New patients, staff or patient information. The goal decides who speaks, which rooms and how long.
About 60 seconds for the homepage and Google profile. Add a team film and walk-through on the same day.
In writing, before the shoot. Treatment scenes only with a model or a patient who chose to take part.
Check screens, files, appointment books and name tags before the camera rolls.
No promises of results, no before-and-after pictures. Have concept and edit reviewed.
Half a day, early, after hours or on a Saturday, with a crew of two to three.
No. Filming happens early in the morning, after consultation hours, on a Saturday or in the gaps between appointments. A practice portrait usually needs half a day, and our crew of two to three does not block corridors or rooms.
Only with written consent. For treatment scenes, practices usually work with a model or with a patient who has deliberately chosen to take part. The waiting room is filmed without patients, or so that nobody can be recognised.
No. The doctor answers questions sent in advance in conversation, and the film is cut from the answers. That takes 20 to 30 minutes and looks more natural than a memorised text.
A practice portrait with half a shoot day is €1,990 plus VAT at Pixer (Corporate Basic). With a team film or explainers, Corporate Professional at €2,990 fits; clinics with several sites choose Corporate Premium at €4,990 or the brand film from €9,900.
Yes. Interviews can be recorded in English, German, Arabic or Persian. Subtitles in German or English are included in Corporate Basic, both languages from Corporate Professional; Arabic and Persian subtitles are available in addition.
Usage rights have no time or territorial limit. Check the consents when staff leave, and renew the film when team or rooms change noticeably.
