Recap video: looking back on your show

A recap video is a short edit that sums up a trade fair or a single show day from the exhibitor's point of view: stand, people, moments.

Definition

A recap is a summary. A recap video sums up what happened at a show: build-up or an opening wide shot, the busy stand, conversations, products, talks, the team and, at the end, logo and message. It usually runs between 30 and 90 seconds and relies on music and short text overlays.

The term is often used interchangeably with highlight video. A recap tends to retell the course of the show, though, while a highlight video shows only the strongest moments from your stand (booth).

What it means for exhibitors

A recap video answers the question of how the show went for customers, partners and colleagues, in less than a minute and a half. It works on LinkedIn, in the post-show newsletter, on the website and in internal communication. Many exhibitors also play it on the stand screen at the next show.

Its value depends heavily on timing. While the show is running or has just ended, a review gets the most attention because visitors and contacts still remember it. So plan in advance who approves the video and on which channels it will appear. Also clarify whether people will be visible who need to agree to publication, and which music will be used under which licence. If you exhibit for several days, a short clip per day can work better than a single review at the end.

In practice

A good recap needs footage spread across the whole day: the empty stand in the morning, crowds at peak hours, details, hands on products, smiling faces, the team in the evening. These cutaway shots, often called B-roll, are the raw material the review is built from.

At Pixer we edit while we film. The finished video is ready within 24 hours after the show ends, so you can publish it during show week. On request you also get a vertical version for stories and reels, and subtitles in English, German, Arabic or Persian.

FAQ

Common questions

How long should a recap video be?

For social media 30 to 60 seconds, for the website and newsletter up to about 90 seconds. Longer edits are rarely watched to the end.

Does a recap video need speech?

No. Most work with music and short text overlays. One sentence from an interview can make the review more personal, though.
