Employer branding at trade fairs: showing your company as an employer

Employer branding at trade fairs means using a show deliberately to present your company as an attractive employer. The goal is to reach skilled professionals, graduates and talent who are attending the fair.

Definition

At trade fairs you meet not only customers but also professionals from your industry who may be open to a new employer. Many fairs also offer career areas, student days or job boards. Employer branding uses these opportunities to show what it is like to work for you.

This includes a note about open positions on the stand (booth), contact persons for applicants, insights into projects and daily work, and the presence of the team. What matters is that the presentation stays authentic and fits the brand. Recruiting must not crowd out customer conversations on the stand.

What it means for exhibitors

People want to know who they would be working with. Your stand staff are therefore the most important message. Employees who enjoy talking about their work convince more than any job advert.

Decide who on the stand handles questions from applicants and provide information that is easy to take away, such as a QR code linking to your careers page. Agree with HR how contacts from candidates are captured and followed up.

Think beyond the show. Most potential applicants never see your stand in person. They encounter you on LinkedIn, on your careers page or in job ads. Images and short videos from the show that feature a real team at work are more credible there than posed stock photos.

In practice

For employer branding we mainly photograph people: team photos in front of the stand, portraits of individual employees, scenes during demonstrations and in conversation. In video, short interviews work well, in which employees say in one or two sentences what they value about their work.

Such clips can be edited as vertical videos for social media and as material for your careers page. Interviews and subtitles are possible in German, English, Arabic and Persian. For footage that will appear in job ads, the employees shown should agree in advance.
