A download link is a web address from which finished photos and videos can be downloaded from the provider's server, without storage media or email attachments.
Full-resolution photos and video files are too large for email attachments. That is why they are usually handed over via a link that leads to online storage or a gallery. The recipient opens the link in a browser and downloads individual files or the whole set, often as a ZIP archive.
Some links lead to a gallery with previews in which images can be selected and marked. Others are plain file shares. Many links are time-limited or protected by a password. For video a link is often the only practical route, because the files are very large.
For exhibitors a download link is the fastest way to receive material during the show and pass it on, for example to the marketing department, head office in the home country or an agency. A link is easy to forward without anyone having to copy files.
A few points still matter. Download the material promptly and save it to your own drive or company archive, because time-limited links expire. Do not forward links with photos of recognisable people to open groups, only to the people who need the material. Set up a clear folder structure, for example by show, year and format, so you can still find pictures a year later. And check whether you receive photos in different sizes, for print and for social media.
