Stand construction is the planning, fabrication and assembly of an exhibition stand on the booked floor space. It is usually carried out by a stand builder, and for simple stands sometimes by the exhibitor.
Stand construction covers everything that turns an empty patch of hall floor into a working stand (booth): design, fabrication of walls and furniture, transport, assembly, electrics, lighting and graphics. It is done by specialised stand builders or, for system and package stands, often through services offered by the organiser.
Fixed rules apply. In the technical guidelines of the exhibitor manual the organiser sets maximum heights, fire safety requirements and the times for build-up and dismantling. Larger or multi-storey structures usually have to be submitted and approved in advance.
Decisions made during stand construction cannot be changed later. Where is the counter, how does the light fall, how high is the logo, where do storage and coats disappear? All of this shapes how visitors experience the stand, and equally how it looks in photos and video.
Talk to your stand builder about lighting early. A single colour temperature and light on the conversation areas are easy to plan and very hard to fix at the show. Also plan a closed storage area so that boxes, jackets and drinks stay out of the frame.
Agree with the builder on when the stand will be finished. If graphics are still being applied on the morning of the show, you lose the calmest time for clean stand shots.
When we photograph a stand, we can quickly see how carefully it was built. Well-planned stands have clear sightlines, even light and no visible cables. Then a few minutes are enough for an overview shot you can use for years.
Many exhibitors have the finished stand photographed at the end of the last build-up day, while the hall is still empty. The guide Using the build-up day explains how. Stand builders also value such photos as references. We agree the key angles with you in advance so that you and your builder can both use the same images.
The exhibitor, even if a stand builder does the work. The rules are in the technical guidelines of the exhibitor manual.
Yes, as long as the venue gives service providers access at that time. The best moment is when the stand is finished and the hall is still empty.
