System stand: the exhibition stand built from reusable modules

A system stand is an exhibition stand made from prefabricated, reusable components such as aluminium profiles, wall panels and standard furniture. It is quick to assemble and usually costs less than a custom-built stand.

Definition

A system stand is assembled from a kit. Profiles, panels, fascias and furniture follow fixed grid dimensions and can be taken down after the show and reused for the next event. What makes each stand (booth) individual is mainly the graphics, colours and the arrangement of the elements.

Many organisers offer system stands as a package, often with lighting, carpet and basic furniture. This is common for first-time exhibitors, joint pavilions and smaller spaces. Stand builders rent out system stands too, usually with more design freedom.

What it means for exhibitors

A system stand saves time and money, and the build-up is easy to plan. The trade-off is that many system stands look alike at first glance. The difference comes from details you control yourself.

Use a few large graphics rather than lots of small text. A logo at the top of the fascia and again at eye level is easy to recognise from the aisle and in photos. Check the lighting supplied with the package: standard spotlights often light the walls, not the faces at the counter. One or two extra lights change the look considerably.

Keep it tidy. On a few square metres, boxes, cables and bags stand out immediately. A lockable cupboard or a small storage cabin is money well spent on a system stand.

In practice

We photograph system stands differently from large custom builds. Instead of wide overviews we show the stand in tighter frames, place products in the foreground and focus on conversations. That way the stand looks lively and professional even if the structure is simple.

In video, short detail shots and scenes with people keep the stand from looking generic. More on this in the guide Small stand, big impact. Make sure graphics are applied cleanly and there are no gaps between panels. Small flaws like these show up more in photos than on site.

FAQ

Common questions

Is a system stand suitable for professional trade fair photos?

Yes. With good graphics, extra light and a tidy space, a system stand looks professional in photos. The focus then shifts more to people and products.

Can a system stand be customised?

Within the grid, yes: graphics, colours, furniture and the arrangement of elements can be adapted. Free-form shapes are what custom-built stands are for.
